Darlene Rimer

Christmas is here again. Where has the year gone? For me the year has been a time of transition. Jesus understands transition because He left His throne of glory to come to earth to save us. That has helped me through transitioning from Dominican to PA.

Since coming home in August the transition has gone well because of your prayers. In September the mission had a week of reentry for missionaries who returned to the States. It was a time of helpful information and encouragement. Also, upon visiting the supporting churches, I was refreshed and blessed. It was a privilege to share what was accomplished for the Lord the last 41 years through prayers and support.

It has also been a time of renewing relationships. I have enjoyed being involved in different family activities. Seeing my great-niece in a play, going to my other great-nieces grandparent’s day at school, flag football games and concerts, have given me great joy. What a time I had visiting friends that I have not seen for quite a while. While visiting them, we did some sightseeing. We went to a farm show, women’s expo and Hershey Gardens.

During this time of transition, I have been helping my sister with her children’s Bible club. The monthly Spanish Sunday School newsletter continues to be sent out to around 40 teachers. For the next few months I will be working on plans for future teacher training courses in Hispanic churches which are pastored by my Dominican friends with whom I have had the privilege of serving with in the Dominican.

I am grateful for all that God has done for me and although I have no idea what 2018 has in store, I am sure of God’s grace and mercy in my life today and everyday! May each of you enjoy Christ’s love during this Christmas season and in the New Year as well.

Rejoicing in His birth,
Darlene Rimer

Dear Freeze Church Family,
Please keep Darlene in your prayers as she transitions from 41 years in the Dominican Republic to continued mission work here in the USA.  Darlene will be a Crossworld Ambassador and will have strategic opportunities to advance Crossworld’s ministries. Here is Darlene agenda for the next couple of months.

From Darlene:
These past two months will go by fast with saying goodbyes and finishing up some ministry.  Please pray for me as it will be a busy and difficult two months.  Here is my tentative schedule.

June 25- Visit a church in the capital for a service and then go out to eat with 2 of our missionary kids who are no longer kids.

June 30- Go to capital for a pastors' meeting.  The pastors have asked me to come to their meeting at 9 on July 1 to say goodbye to them even though I already said goodbye in Jan.  Being it is a 2 hour trip I decided to go down the day before to visit 2 young ladies who are like my nieces.  They just had a baby.

July 2- Farewell service in a church here in Santiago

July 6-9-  Visit people in Alma Rosa and Los Mameyes churches.  While there will go to the joint services of the churches in the capital and a farewell service in Los Mameyes on the 9th.

July 9-13-  Leave capital in the afternoon and go to Maimon for children's camp which starts on Monday the 10.

July 21-31- My niece and her family will be here to visit with me.

August 5- Sale of my things in the apartment.

August 23- Leave the DR after 41 years.

In between all of these dates, I will be going to the dentist, having a physical and getting the car maintained and cleaned.

Pray that I will be able to sell the car before I leave in August.  Thank you for your prayers.

The Lord has been so good to me during these 41 years.  He has always been there for me.  As I look to the future in the USA I know that He will continue to guide me and supply me needs.

Wow! It is hard to believe that 41 years ago I arrived in the Dominican Republic to reach children for the Lord. It’s amazing to see how much God has done. Many years ago, a boy named Richard met Jesus through a Bible club in Los Mameyes. A church formed out of that Bible club, and now years later, Richard is one of the leaders of that church!

Richard is just one example of how this ministry has made an impact. God’s Word has transformed the lives of so many children who are still serving Him as adults today. And you’ve made that possible through your gifts and prayers. Your investment has made an eternal difference; because of you, more Dominicans will worship Jesus around His throne in heaven.

What’s next?

Now I am going through a time of transition. In talking with Crossworld’s leadership, we have concluded that the time is right for me to step out of full-time ministry in the DR. So on August 23, I will be leaving the Dominican Republic to help take care of my mother in Pennsylvania. I am not leaving Crossworld, even though I’m changing locations. In this new stage, I will be a Crossworld Ambassador and will have strategic opportunities to advance Crossworld’s ministries.

The burden for training teachers to reach children for the Lord still burns brightly. I still want to be actively involved in preparing people to teach children God’s Word. I want to continue using my gift of teaching among Hispanic churches in the U.S., including the church in Tallahassee, Florida, that I have been working with the past few years. Also, I have been in contact with quite a few Dominican pastors in the U.S. to see what needs they have in the area of teacher training.

I may assist Crossworld by mentoring women who are in the membership process or teaching their kids during the two-week orientation events. There are a lot of possibilities, and Crossworld leaders are excited about how I can continue to serve in cross- cultural ministry in the U.S. even after my time as a full-time member comes to an end.

Love in Christ,

Dear Prayer Partners,

The Lord is good.  I went to Los Girasoles church and went downstairs to see the S.S. classes.  It was exciting to see the young teacher of the middle age class using different methods to teach God's Word and also, she made it practical for them.

I have several prayer requests for this month.  This Saturday I will be going to Puerto Plata to give a Teacher Training course.  The following Saturday (13) I will be going to Luperon with a member of the national churches children's camp committee to meet with the camp counselors from the northern part of the country.  On the 18th I will be going back to Luperon for a Teacher Training Course.  The last weekend of May I am going with Loida to visit her parents in San Juan de la Maguana.  It is about 5 hours away.  That Sunday is Mother's Day here.  We are going to spend Mother's Day with her parents.  The following Saturday June 3 the camp committee is coming here for their last meeting before camp on July 10-13.  Pray for safety as I travel.  Pray for wisdom as I give the courses.  Thank you for your prayers.

Love,                                                                                                                                               Darlene

I have been back from the States for a few weeks.  Thank you for your prayers.  I had a good time with my family.  We celebrated my brother's 60th birthday, got to spend time with my great niece and great nephew.  Then I went to Florida for a teacher training course.  It went very well.  While there, I sat in on a meeting of a mission team from the church that was going to Guatemala for a week.  It was encouraging to see how excited they were.  I am praying that the Lord will call some to serve Him in the mission field.  I was able to help them with some final plans for the Bible club that they were going to give.  They were going to put into practice what I have been teaching them in the 4 teacher training courses that I have given to them.  Praise the Lord for that.

It is good to be back in the D.R.  where the weather was warmer.  In the first week I was busy getting caught up on some things. Then I have been helping out a Santiago Christian School teacher take her mom around to see the capital and some waterfalls.  We even went to a chocolate plantation and saw how they grew and made chocolate.  It was a very good and informative tour.  Her mother leaves this Sunday.  Then I will go to church, get something to eat and head for San Cristobal to give a mini course to teachers at a Christian school on discipline in the classroom.  Then the first Saturday in May I will be giving a course from 2-6 in Puerto Plata.  Please pray that these courses will be profitable for the teachers.

Have a Happy Easter remembering what Christ did for us on the cross.  It is the message of His death and resurrection that we share with those around us.

Love in Christ,
